It is very important to try and keep some adult social life as a new nursing mother. If you are a new mom, you know how hard it is to find time to eat lunch, take a shower, or even go to the bathroom. There will be a time that comes though when you are ready to take a break from the poo and the milking and have a pleasant, educated, thought provoking adult conversation in a setting that does not include receiving blankets and binkies. Your schedule now revolves around the next feeding and counting the number one’s and number two’s your newborn has accomplished in the past 24 hours. Honestly this is normal and necessary. It is also normal and necessary to take a break.

The down side you are responsible for the success and failure of your business. If the business is running slow you have little income. You can’t afford to miss work because of illness or family emergencies because you are not there to generate income.

But that wasn’t enough. For my centerpiece I created a large, pasta dish which was served room temperature and prepared just before the wedding party began. It went into a not so big punch bowl and just got better as it waited the hour or two before it was served. I suggest covering and hiding this beautiful dish lest your family pick away at the top. All of the parts to the pasta dish were prepared days before and assembled with the freshly cooked pasta.

Randall’s Ordinary is OLD. Seriously. John Randall purchased this property in 1680. John Randall II built the homestead. For more than 200 years, a Randall has lived here. What’s even cooler than that is that the ORIGINAL structure is there. As a matter of fact, that is where the inn is located. The restaurant is actually located inside of the farmhouse. The inn is in the barn and silo.

Here are my three favorite local coffee shops – located in Southside, Jacksonville Beach, and Five Points/Riverside. All three of these shops use coffee from my favorite local roaster, Bold Bean Coffee Roasters of Jacksonville.

Gloriette – My grandparents were so excited when the baroque belvedere Gloriette on top of Schonbrunn hill was refurbished, glazed and turned into a nybagelcafe & deli in the early Nineties. It’s a wonderful destination to head for when climbing up the hill from the palace. In the spring and summer, it can get really crowded there. My tip: Head there first thing and then visit the palace with a prepaid ticket to avoid queuing.

So we drove “over the hump to Pahrump.” Pahrump is a small town, about an hour away from Las Vegas. Its real estate economy followed that of Las Vegas during the boom and the ensuing bust. During the bust the population increased, they built a hospital and a Walmart. In the twenty years I have lived in Las Vegas, and the forty years my husband has been there, we have visited Pahrump, perhaps a few times per year.

“Quick! Hop in!” yelled the driver. Gratefully, I dove in and with another roar we drove off, leaving Michelle in the dust. I turned to look at the driver and I was shocked. It was the most beautiful woman I had ever seen! Already, I felt a strong bond between us forming.
